Networks & Wi-Fi

Why is my Wi-Fi slow?

Slow Wi-Fi can result from interference, weak coverage, congestion, device limits, or the internet connection.

Answer

First determine whether the issue affects one device, one room, or the entire connection. Test with Ethernet when possible to separate internet-service problems from wireless problems. Wi-Fi performance can be improved through better access-point placement, modern channels, wired backhaul, updated equipment, and capacity planning.

Recommended steps

  1. Restart only the affected device before rebooting network equipment.
  2. Compare Wi-Fi and wired speed tests.
  3. Check signal strength and interference near the problem area.
  4. Confirm access points and routers are updated.
  5. Review channel use, client count, and uplink capacity.
