How do I create a strong password?
Use long, unique passwords and a password manager instead of predictable variations.
Answer
A strong password is long, unique to one account, and difficult to guess. A password manager can generate and store random passwords so you do not have to remember them. Never reuse a business password for personal services, and do not rely on substitutions such as replacing an 'a' with '@'.
Recommended steps
- Use at least 14 characters when a service permits it.
- Generate a unique password for every account.
- Store credentials in a reputable password manager.
- Enable multi-factor authentication wherever available.
